  • TEMPERS could flare when plans for a controversial care facility for people with learning difficulties, autism and physical disabilities are decided upon tonight.
  • Councillors will debate an application to demolish the former Whittaker House care home in Parsonage Street, Radcliffe and build 20 one-bedroom flats in its place.
  • More than 40 homeowners have formally objected to the proposal, but planning officers have recommended the authority grants permission to the plans.
  • Bury council’s planning control committee will also discuss applications for a new bus stop in Radcliffe town centre and for 50 flats to be built on the site of the old Holcombe Tennis Club.
  • The meeting at Bury Town Hall starts at 7pm.

That's all for me tonight folks. More detail on all tonight's decisions in this week's Bury Times and Radcliffe Times.

Final application, new putting green on the sixth hole at Walmersley golf club. This, too, is passed with support of all committee members.

Time for the new bus station in Radcliffe town centre, moving this will allow a new retail development on the site of the old bus station, part of the Radcliffe regeneration scheme. Passed unanimously.

Now onto the 50 elderly housing flats in Holcombe Brook. Replacement tennis club nearly complete, we hear. Passed unanimously, no objectors present.

Now discussing a conversion of stables in Hawkshaw into a house, including single storey objections at side and rear. This is passed unanimously.

Whittaker House passed unanimously. Residents "disgusted".

After comments from Cllr Matt Bailey, talk turns to the objections to the proposal by Ivan Lewis, MP for Bury South.

Member of the public has just spoken against the app, now HB Community Solutions speaking for.

Whittaker House up first as most members of the public here for this application.

Cllr Cummings explaining decisions will be made tonight and that for each app someone can speak for it for three mins and against it for three mins.

Re the update at 6.59, that should say Longsight Road! Silly autocorrect..

Decent turn out tonight. Quick head count suggests around 25 members of the public present.

The meeting, chaired by Cllr Tony Cummings, is to begin shortly. First on the agenda is the demolition of the old Holcombe Brook Tennis Club clubhouse in Longsightedness Road, for 50 retirement flats to be built there. A stipulation of consent passed in 2011 was that work on the flats could not be begun until the tennis club's replacement facility in Hazel Hall Lane was complete.

Good evening. The meeting will start at 7pm.
