A YOUNGSTER has raised more than £1,000 for the new children’s hospice in Radcliffe by making and selling bracelets in school with the help of her friends.

Isobelle Skillin, aged 10, decided to raise money for Grace’s Place after hearing about the charity, and because her own family have been touched by cancer.

She has created more than 500 of the colourful bracelets, and has sold them at school with the help of classmates, as well as through social media.

Interest in her project has grown and Isobelle, who is in Year Five at Bury Grammar, has seen her fundraising total rise.

Her mum Kelly, of Kingsbury Close, Brandlesholme, is also taking part in a Tough Mudder event in August in a team of five family members to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

When Isobelle found out she was too young to take part, she decided she wanted to fundraise in her own way.

Kelly said: “I am so proud that she has raised so much money, for such a good cause.

“Cancer has massively affected our family. I lost my dad to cancer and two of my friends were recently diagnosed with aggressive cancers.

“She wanted to raise some money as well, and she thought it would be good to help people her own age with serious illnesses.”

Grace’s Place, which will provide palliative and endof- life care for children living in Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Heywood and Middleton at the site of the former Bury Hospice in Dumers Lane, is set to open in the autumn.
