IN response to Wednesday's Hot Topic about fly-tipping, my husband is an enforcement officer in Glasgow who works his backside off daily to help improve the city.

He and all the other officers do a brilliant but thankless job.

Not only do they deal with litter issues, they also deal with anti-social behaviour like drugs and alcohol misuse, and vandalism.

There are many areas across the city that need enforcement officers 24 hours a day.

If people in Glasgow were more proactive and helped officers like my husband, there would be more done to eliminate this problem.

I'm from Glasgow and love the city - and have always made a point of encouraging others not to drop litter, let their dog foul the streets or other things that tarnish it.

People would not allow this to happen in their house or bedroom so they should speak up and support what these officers do. Keep up the good work guys. DIANE Glasgow Strike them off

WHAT planet are council and signal workers on.

While everyone is trying to pull together in this worrying time they decide to go on strike.

There are so many people worried about their jobs and thankful they have one.

These strikers should take a long, hard look at themselves. GW Uddingston More parking spaces

WITH regard to the parking fees plan being rejected (Evening Times, October 10), what people need is more parking spaces, not regulation of, or permits for, existing availability.

The recent bus corridor "improvement" works in Langside done away with about 20 spaces.

How does this improve bus access? All it means is cars now double park or park on kerbs and corners.

Some are even parked fully on the pavement at night.

What is the point of permits if there are no spaces?

A better solution would be to make the narrow streets one way and have angled parking along one side.

One could accuse the council of cashing in by increasing the amount of double yellows in residential areas. CHRIS1922 Langside Council jobs threat

I WONDER how long the 9000 council workers' jobs will be secure for when this new company takes over (Evening Times, October 9).

And for how long will they keep their conditions of service because after a certain length of time their new "employers" can change them. Watch this space! WEE MARY, Glasgow Blame drink yobs

I WAS reading the article on Scots not being allowed to drink in pubs until the age of 21 if a top Glasgow doctor's proposal is approved.

The actual issue is with the yobs drinking on the street.

I also reckon the country's nightclubs could do more. LEESOME Glasgow WRITE: Evening Times, 200 Renfield Street, Glasgow G2 3QB. Please include your name and address. Can't wait to go on it. However, I think the wheel would be better placed outside Xscape. PEPSIBARKER, Glasgow A view to a kill

AMAZING views of a huge car park and horrible shopping centre! But good luck to them. BRAD, posted online Better off elsewhere

BRAEHEAD is a shopping centre not a "leisure" destination!

Put the wheel somewhere it would draw people - Clydeside? Instead of here. EMMA, Glasgow No more traffic, please

WRONG place. Where are all the cars going to park?

It will put people off with the amount of traffic.

Incidentally, when you leave Braehead from the Sainsbury's end you get exactly eight seconds on the traffic light system, resulting in jams and road rage. JRB, Glasgow Stop all the moaning

BRAEHEAD has always been a shopping and leisure destination.

What are the arena, curling rink and skating rinks for if not leisure? Hmm!

As for the big wheel, don't knock something new just because it's in the vicinity of the west of Scotland.

Be proud to have things for a change, people, instead of moaning ALL the time. ANGELA, Renfrew The wheel of fortune

WHAT a gem of an idea! They should get Lottery money for it. LEESOME, Glasgow Let's make it squinty

I DON'T see any negative impact to this idea so hopefully it will get off the ground.

Perhaps it would have been a better tourist attraction if it was a squinty wheel! TAM-M, South Side Roll it to Silverburn

IT should go to Silverburn as Braehead is far too busy. Try living in Renfrew - it's murder. ALEXNIXON1954, Renfrew Bird's-eye view of what?

UNLESS you drive, Braehead is murder to get to. And do we really want a bird's-eye view of Govan, Paisley, etc. I think not. It's bad enough from ground level. STEWIE GRIFFIN, Glasgow
