TROUBLED star Britney Spears was carried from her home in an ambulance today after a "family dispute".

Six police cars, an ambulance and a fire engine rushed to the LA house in the early hours of this morning, British time.

After almost three hours, Britney was brought out on a trolley and driven away in the waiting ambulance.

A police spokesman said she was under the influence of an unknown substance, and no injuries were reported.

He added that the incident involved a family dispute that police worked to resolve "peacefully by court order".

The 26-year-old singer reportedly turned over her children to ex-husband Kevin Federline.

Spears and Federline are fighting a bitter battle over custody of their young sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James.

Federline has temporary custody of the children because Spears, who has limited visiting rights, has defied court orders.

The two were married in October 2004 and divorced in July.

Earlier yesterday, Spears appeared for a deposition in the custody dispute.

She was interviewed under oath for just 14 minutes On Wednesday, her lawyers had quit, after a "breakdown" in communication with their client made it "impossible" to carry on.
