A LOTTERY funded fun day meant sunshine and smiles for everyone.

The community event organised by the New Springs Community Project Group used £4,293 awarded by the Big Lottery Fund to bring family fun to Bury East.

At the free fun day, all corners of the community came together to celebrate the diversity of the Springs estate.

Organiser Lucy Holland said: "I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended Celebrate Springs! on Saturday.

"It was a fantastic day with lots of free activities for families to take part in — and the weather was on our side too!

"I’d also like to thank the NSCPG volunteers who worked so hard to make the day a success."

Mayor Mike Connolly attended with his consort Ian Hargreaves and praised the efforts of the community calling it a "great event".

Organisations like Bury Adult Learning, City of Trees and Bury College's No Barriers project supported the day providing activities, which included crafts, mini farm, reiki and a community picnic.
