A RADCLIFFE student is set to take up her place at a prestigious university after sweeping her A-Level examinations.

Earlier in the year Adi Jacobson, aged 18, was accepted for a place at the University of Oxford if she could attain the required grades in Physics, Maths and Further Maths.

Now, after achieving 3 A* scores from Withington Girls’ School and therefore being one of the top achievers, she will now study in Physics at Christ Church Oxford.

Withington Girls School pupils secured an impressive 74 per cent pass rate for A* and A this year, with 29 per cent at the elite A* grade.

Adi, who helped her team to victory in the prestigious EES national engineering competition last year, is one of nine Withington girls – 13 per cent of the cohort - to have successfully secured a place at the universities of Oxford or Cambridge this year.

After receiving her results, Adi said: “I have had a fantastic time at Withington. I have made so many wonderful friends and my teachers have been supportive every step of the way.

“I have a real passion for Physics and cannot wait to go to Oxford where there is so much more for me to learn.”

Adi says that she hopes to achieve a career in engineering after completing her university course.

Headmistress at Withington Girls’ School, Mrs Sarah Haslam said: “It has been an absolute pleasure to work with this year group who have made such a fantastic contribution to the life of the school.

“They fully deserve these wonderful results which not only reflect their high academic ability, but also their commitment and their passion for learning.

“In this year’s context of A Level reform in particular, it is satisfying to see the girls’ and their teachers’ outstanding dedication rewarded in results that enable our girls to move on to the university courses of their choice.

“Many are the most competitive in the land, and it is good to see them leave with the skills, values, personal and social qualities needed to embrace the opportunities and challenges ahead and to go where their ambitions and dreams take them.”
