A TOTTINGTON High School pupil visited Westminster after finishing second in a national writing competition.

Samuel Stott, a year eight pupil at the school, in Laurel Street, finished runner-up in the national RE bible story writing competition for a story he wrote while in year seven.

He and his classmates were asked to imagine they had witnessed one of the key events in the life of Jesus.

His story described The Last Supper, where Jesus predicted his own death and shared his last meal on earth with his twelve disciples – breaking the bread and drinking wine.

On Tuesday, December 5, Samuel visited London to receive his prize in a ceremony at the Houses of Parliament, accompanied by Narda Sestanovic, the assistant headteacher at Tottington, and his mother.

During his visit, he joined the other prize winners in a tour of the building, and later had tea with Baroness Cox, cross-bench member of the House of Lords and founder and CEO of Humanitarian Aid Relief Trust – an organisation which helps people living in war zones around the world.

For finishing second, Samuel received a £250 cheque on behalf of the school’s RE department as well as a selection of books.
