SPENNYMOOR Town’s WAGs are to enjoy a free stay in London usually enjoyed by Premiership player’s wives as they back the club’s FA Carlsberg Vase bid.

Many of the wives and girlfriends of Spennymoor Town’s players planned to travel to London to support the players at Wembley against Tunbridge Wells.

But unlike Victoria Beckham and Coleen Rooney the North League player’s wives faced having to pay the hotel bills for their stay.

The North-East WAGs were set to fall foul of Football Association rules which meant that they could not submit a claim via Spennymoor Town for their costs.

Now Martyn Wallbank and Trevor Brown, directors of Javeline Engineering, Fishburn, near Spennymoor, have donated £1,500 to cover the WAG’s bill.

Mr Wallbank said: "Spennymoor's achievement of reaching the FA Vase final is fabulous.

“When we were about some of the FA rules regarding expenses, we just wanted to do our bit.

"Let's hope everyone enjoys the weekend and Spennymoor come back with the Vase."

Suzanne Cogdan, wife of striker Gavin Cogdan, plus Eve Park, the girlfriend of Chris Lawther and Aimee Biglim, Lewis Dodds’ girlfriend, are amongst those to benefit.

Mrs Cogdan said: "I think it's a lovely gesture.”

Miss Park, 21, said: "We're really grateful, it's a nice surprise and we're really looking forward to it."

Miss Biglim, 28, said: "Some of the girls were planning to book up in various hotels but this will mean we're all together and that's great."

Tickets for Spennymoor's FA Carlsberg Vase Final v Tunbridge Wells cost £15 adults and £5 Under-16s and are available on the gate at Wembley.

Return coach travel is £20 and is available from the Wembley Club Shop, next to Spennymoor Town Hall, from 9am-5pm today (May 2) and tomorrow (May 3) or from spennymoortownfc.co.uk.
