BURY boss David Flitcroft says he is “excited” about the chance to work with former Barnsley assistant manager Ryan Kid after appointing him as the club’s youth coach.

The 42-year-old Radcliffe-born coach returns to the JD Stadium for a second spell after previously managing the club’s academy.

“Kiddo is someone who will teach our players to play the correct way,” said Flitcroft, who played alongside Kidd at Preston.

“He is someone who is in sync with what we do. I wanted to get synergy in between the first team and the youth and this is the first part of it.”

Youth team prospects Navid Nasseri and Anthony Dudley both made the bench this week, with Dudley playing the final few minutes at Mansfield on Tuesday night.

And Flitcroft believes Kidd’s appointment will ensure more young players are promoted to the first-team.

“Kiddo is really settling in and it’s been unbelievable,” he said.

“He is the mentor to those players.

“He had a fantastic (playing) career as a cultured centre-half.

“He knows exactly what is in my computer (head) and is now going to try and send that down to the youth players and youth teams and the academy.

“He’s a teacher of football, and spent a lot of time with David Moyes (at Preston).

“He is going to bring that experience and that quality to Bury Football Club, so it’s a brilliant signing.”
