DANNY Mayor is still coming to terms with the jubilant reaction of fans at his signing after the club today officially confirmed his arrival from Sheffield Wednesday for an undisclosed fee.

Chairman Stewart Day unofficially announced the 22-year-old winger had signed a three-year deal in front of 250 Shakers supporters on Thursday night at the club’s annual awards dinner.

The whole room erupted into spontaneous applause and chants as Day broke the news.

And that delight is still sinking in for the former Owls midfielder.

“It was brilliant - to know that the fans want you here is brilliant,” he said.

“I can only thank them for doing it. It was a bit of a shock, I didn’t expect it but it was great.

“I heard the chairman say it was a sign of intent and if they think that then it’s a nice feeling.”
