EXPERIENCED Bury midfielder Chris Sedgwick is getting that promotion feeling again after confirming he has agreed to extend his contract for another 12 months.

The 34-year-old utility man was offered a fresh deal this week after impressing in a new central midfield role, following on from a number of similarly assured performances on either flank.

He admitted it didn’t take a second thought before signing on the dotted line.

“I’m delighted. We got it sorted virtually straight away,” said the former Championship player with Preston.

“They asked me if I wanted to stay and I said yes and just signed it.”

After being signed up by previous Bury boss Kevin Blackwell following a trial last summer, Sedgwick struggled to break into the starting XI before the arrival of current manager David Flitcroft.

Sedgwick finished the campaign with three goals and 40 appearances to his name, and while the Yorkshireman expects a tough fight to hold on to his place next season, he is looking forward to the challenge and potential reward.

“You can sometimes sense when you get a good group of lads and something special is going to happen,” he said.

“I was fortunate enough to win promotion twice with Rotherham and once with Sheffield Wednesday and you have that kind of feeling here.

“The chairman (Stewart Day) wants to win it (promotion). He’s ambitious and he wants a good go at it.

“He runs Bury like a Championship club and I’m sure he will attract a lot of other good players in the close season.”
