A NEW venture for leading home-based players, the Top Squash League,

is to be launched at the Newlands Club in Glasgow on Saturday.

Six teams of three will compete, with each round being held on a

Saturday evening at one of the team's venues. Six grand prix

tournaments, including both graded and women's events, also will be

staged.

In a move to make the teams of similar standard, there have been a few

transfers from the Scottish national league. For example, Steve

Richardson, the Newlands No.2, will be heading the Marco's line-up.

The inclusion of a Young Scotland team of Graeme Clarke, Paul McGurk,

and Allan Tasker lets them compete at a high level.

The new league will have the financial support of OTT Rackets, Ashaway

Strings, Lincoln National, Friendly Hotels, and Adscreen.

The first round will start at 7pm at Newlands on Saturday, and the

line-ups are:

Newlands (Barry Sutherland, William Boswell, Alan Frame); Colinton

Castle (Brian Tait, Todd Rutherford, Gregor Thomson); Marco's (Steve

Richardson, Mike Ramsay, Colin Grant); Glasgow Academicals (David Heath,

Neil Dickson, Peter O'Hara); David Lloyd Club (Derek Ritchie, John

Meadley, Brian Garry); Young Scotland (Graeme Clarke, Paul McGurk, Allan

Tasker).

Future dates and venues are: January 7 (Glasgow Academicals), January

28 (David Lloyd Club), February 18 (Young Scotland), March 18 (Marco's),

April 15 (Colinton Castle).
