HARARE: Former Foreign Secretary Lord Carrington, who chaired a
conference that ended white minority rule in Zimbabwe, began a three-day
visit there by saying that he hoped President Robert Mugabe and white
farmers would end a dispute over the forced redistribution of their land
to blacks. ''I hope the spirit of reconciliation will prevail and help
solve the current problems,'' he told a news conference.
