BURY’S Danny Mayor has been voted Sky Bet League Two player of the year.
The 24-year-old winger, who has scored eight goals this season, beat off competition from fellow nominees Wycombe Wanderers’ Alfie Mawson and Shrewsbury Town’s Ryan Woods.
Club representative Gary Lloyd picked up the award on his behalf at a ceremony at The Brewery in London on Sunday.
Mayor was unable to attend after flying back from Portsmouth with the rest of the Shakers squad following their 1-0 win on the south coast, ahead of a crunch promotion clash at home to Southend on Tuesday.
The awards were voted for by managers of each club in the division.
Shaun Harvey, chief executive of The Football League, said: "Each of our winners thoroughly deserves this recognition and, once again, we've seen exceptional levels of talent, dedication and achievement across all our nominees."
Mayor, from Leyland, who signed from Sheffield Wednesday last summer following a successful season on loan, is the first Bury winner of the award since Ryan Lowe picked up the prize in 2011, when the club achieved promotion from League Two.
