The number of coronavirus cases in Greater Manchester and Bolton has continued to fall.

Some boroughs are seeing their number of cases and their infection rates plummet after a spike in infections in recent weeks.

Bolton is still recording the lowest infection rate in the region after another drop in cases, with all nine other boroughs of GM also following this trend.

Covid-19 cases in the region had spiked in recent weeks, including Bolton, after seeing a significant reduction throughout June.

Bolton was the first borough in the country to see a spike in infections due to the Delta variant of Covid-19, leading to surge vaccinations and testing to be implemented.

The work of local public health teams, NHS, CCG, and countless volunteers helped to test and vaccinate as many people as possible in order to get the infection rate under control again.

Health leaders had expressed concerns at the most recent rise in cases, however, this appears to have been brought under control again for the time being.

In the seven days to July 24, Bolton recorded 1,012 new positive cases of coronavirus, equalling an infection rate of 351.9 new cases per 100,000 residents.

This is a significant fall from the previous seven days, to July 17, where the town recorded an infection rate of 505 new cases per 100,000 residents.

This means Bolton is still recording the lowest rate in the region, with Bury, Trafford, and Manchester all recording low rates.

Salford and Oldham are now the only two areas of Greater Manchester to be recording an infection rate over 500 per 100,000 residents.
