A DRAMA which showcased Bolton has dominated this year's BAFTA nominations.

Russel T Davies powerful series 'It's A Sin' has picked up 11 nominations at the BAFA Television Awards.

Key scenes of the drama were filmed in Le Mans Crescent and Bolton School.

'It's a Sin is set during the 1980s and focuses on the UK's HIV/Aids.

The show is a tale of love and loss set against the backdrop of the AIDS pandemic which devastated the gay community through much of the decade.

Filming of a protest took place in Le Mans Crescent, which was transformed to look like London, with the capital's skyline superimposed over the background — with St Paul's Cathedral tucked behind the crescent.

It's a Sin, filmed in Bolton, streamed 6.4 million times in 10 days

Bolton School became the corridors of power as it was transformed into the Houses of Parliament for the series with scenes starring Stephen Fry.

The five-part drama follows a group of young friends who move to London to start a new life.

Filming took place in Bolton from October 2019, with production teams bringing retro props including vintage cars to the area.

The Channel 4 series earned a nomination for best mini-series as well as multiple acting nominations for many members of its cast including Olly Alexander, Lydia West, Omari Douglas, Callum Scott Howells and David Carlyle.

Adele Hughes of Bolton School Weddings and Events said: “Bolton School was delighted to be used as a backdrop in the filming of It’s a Sin and to host Stephen Fry, Omari Douglas and the cast.  "With Cold Feet, Get Even and The Stranger all being filmed here in recent years, we are now firmly on the map as a film location."

The Bafta TV Craft Awards will take place on April 24.
