A group which advises on Westhoughton's regeneration plans has appointed a new chair.

Cllr Andrea Finney, who represents Westhoughton North and Chew Moor, will become the chair of Westhoughton Steering Group.

The move follows the decision by the current chair, Cllr Bernadette Eckersley-Fallon, to step down from the role.

In 2019, the council committed £12m to regenerating the district centres of Farnworth, Little Lever, Horwich and Westhoughton.

A steering group was appointed for each area to oversee the development of local masterplans, make sure projects are delivered and to ensure key outcomes are achieved.

The steering groups bring together business owners, politicians and other local stakeholders.

Cllr Finney will take up her position at the next meeting of the group on November 2.

She said: “I am honoured to have been appointed as chair of this important local group.

“Bolton Council is committed to regenerating Westhoughton and I am looking forward to reflecting the views of local people as these projects progress.

“Westhoughton is a town with a proud heritage with many exciting opportunities ahead.”

At the heart of the plans for Westhoughton Town Hall are that it remains a community hub and that its historical features are preserved as far as possible in maintaining the building.

Council leader Martyn Cox revealed this month that £900,000 has already been sent in the upkeep of the building to ensure it could be maintained.

There are also plans to allow community groups access to the building as well as introducing commercial use, which will help with costs of the building.

Cllr Bernadette Eckersley-Fallon said: “I have had the privilege of being chair of this group and seeing first-hand the dedication and commitment to ensure we deliver the best possible results for residents.

“I am very passionate about our town and wish the new chair well - I think it’s a really exciting time for the people of Westhoughton.”
