Teachers from secondary schools across Bolton are set to walk out tomorrow as part of national strike action.

The strike action, led by the National Education Union (NEU), will see over 23,000 schools affected across England and Wales.

The strike is over pay, with further strikes set to take place on February 14 and March 15, 16 and 28.

The NEU met with education secretary Gillian Keegan yesterday (Monday) in a bid to resolve the pay dispute – to no avail.

Here is the list of all secondary schools in Bolton and whether they will be open or closed on Wednesday:

Closed/Partially Closed

Essa Academy – Partially closed: a letter on the school’s website says the academy will be closed to Years 7-10, with some Year 11 students allowed to attend due to impending deadlines.

Harper Green – Partially closed: The school said it would be closed to all year groups besides Year 11, as they have exams.

Kearsley Academy – Partially closed: Year 11 students will be in, alongside any students who are vulnerable. All other classes are suspended tomorrow.

Rivington and Blackrod – Partially closed: School is closed for Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 with remote learning provided for these year groups. The school is open for students in Year 11 and 12. Full details available on the website.

Sharples – Partially closed: Whole year groups of Year 7 and Year 11 will be in, alongside anyone who is a critical worker and vulnerable children.

Smithills – Partially closed: Vulnerable children will be allowed in, the school specified that all parents have been made aware of this, and that all children who are off have been provided with work by the school.

Turton - Closed: The school remains open to vulnerable students, with 60 places having been made available, but is otherwise closed.

Westhoughton – Partially closed: The school has enough teachers to cover a Year 11 exam that will be taking place in the morning, and for a small group of children. Everyone else will take part in remote online learning.
