A pub which closed its doors in January to give staff a break has gone up for sale, leaving customers who have meal vouchers worried they will not be able to cash them in.

The Cross Guns Inn, a gastropub in Egerton, closed last month  with manager John Peek saying it was closing January 3  "for the next few weeks".

But since then a ‘for sale’ sign has been put up by commercial property estate agent, Jeremy Rubin.

This has left many customers who had food vouchers worried.

Andy Entwistle bought vouchers worth £120 as Christmas presents for his family.

The Bolton News:

He said: “I have messaged them, but they are ignoring my messages.

“I even emailed them but got no response.

“I purchased eight of their vouchers so it is a lot of money and will need to now buy new gifts for my family to replace these.”

It seems as if  gift vouchers are still available to buy online.

Among the vouchers is a £15.95 Dine For Less, a £20 monetary gift, a £20 Sunday lunch and a Thursday night steak dinner for £40.

Andy said: “It was a nice place and that’s why I bought them.

The Bolton News:

“I hope that it doesn't discourage other people from supporting local business in future."

The pub underwent a refurbishment following Mr Peek’s takeover and is now on sale for £850,000.

It is described by the estate agent as: “An attractive two-storey detached property (which) benefits from a car park to the right-hand side for circa 10 cars.

“There is an additional large car park across the road with parking for approximately 50 cars.”

Other customers who The Bolton News has spoken to have expressed similar concerns over food vouchers.

The Bolton News repeatedly contacted the pub but there was no response.
