And Bolton is home to many hit TV series with Hollywood A-lister Ewan McGregor in town last week to film the new drama A Gentleman in Moscow.

Five TV series to watch this weekend which were filmed in Bolton:

Red Rose

Red Rose, an eight-part series, which is available to watch on Netflix, was filmed predominantly in the town and its surrounding areas.

Paul Clarkson, along with his twin brother Michael, is the show's creator, they grew up in the town and say that it is a love letter to the borough.

Filming took place in 2021, and crews were spotted in multiple places throughout Bolton.

In the town centre filming took place on Bridge StreetChurchgate, Scouts road and Le Mans Crescent for its dramatic finale.

Crews also took shots at a quarry near Scouts Road and they also captured footage at a house on Church Road between Farnworth and Kearsley, as well as sightings at Queens Park and in Westhoughton.

Peaky Blinders

If you’re up got box set binge, Peaky Blinders is the perfect TV show.

Available to watch on Netflix, many episodes of the show were filmed in Bolton with fans coming to Le Mans Crescent to spot Cillian Murphy when he was in town.

There was huge excitement in the town when the Peaky Blinders cast and production crew moved into Bolton in 2021 film scenes for the final series.

Fans gathered over six days to get a glimpse of the stars.

Cillian, who plays Tommy, was seen running out of the former Bolton Magistrates Court, down the steps on to the Crescent, which was transformed into a period street scene with vintage cars parked up.

Happy Valley

A recent favourite among TV watchers is Happy Valley which shot scenes in Bolton in the final series.

Available to watch on BBC iPlayer, viewers tuning into the hit BBC drama may spot some familiar sights.

Bolton town centre is showcased to millions as Sarah Lancashire, who plays Sgt Catherine Cawood, is seen in town for episode two of the third and final series.

Several Bolton businesses in the town centre are featured in the series including Amico Café, Scoopalicious, and The Vaults.

Ridley Road

The historic BBC drama series filmed in Bolton has already been well received by viewers.

Ridley Road, starring Tamzin Outhwaite, Rory Kinnear and Eddie Marsan, is a four-part series based on a novel by Jo Bloom which tells the story of a young Jewish woman who goes undercover at a fascist organisation in sixties London and will air on October 3.

The setting will be familiar to viewers in Bolton, with crews having filmed key scenes on Le Mans Crescent and Silverwell Street in November last year, with the familiar locales have been transformed into stunning recreations of 1960s London.

The series is available to watch on BBC iPlayer now.

Sherwood

Sherwood has been spotted filming in Bolton on several occasions.

Two shocking and unexpected murders shatter an already fractured community leading to one of the largest manhunts in British history.

Crews working on James Graham’s BBC One series Sherwood, were spotted filming near the Pigeon Tower in Rivington in 2021.

Cameras were spotted on the car park at the Top Barn and several police vehicles were glimpsed in the car park below the Pigeon Tower by people out walking.
