Queue jumping rush hour motorists found themselves being pulled over by police.

Motorway police said they spotted a number of drivers trying to get on the M60 at the busy Eccles interchange on Thursday.

But rather that joining the line of traffic they drove to the front and stopped in the lane until a motorist let them in.

A spokesman for North West Motorway Police said: "We had a patrol focusing on the M602 out of Manchester. We dealt with a number of motorists who tried to get to the front of queue for the M60 and stop in the running lane, M62 until someone let them in.

"They all received TORS - Traffic Offence Reports.

"Please don't be the one we speak to today! Patience is not only a virtue, it's a lot cheaper!"

Responding, one motorist said: "You could do with being on the M62 eastbound juntion 12 at rush hour watching the amount of drivers that jump from the M602 lanes on to the M60 North lane. Even see them go over the chevrons they leave it that late such is the impatience of some drivers."

Police have highlighted instances of where motorists ignore lane closures on motorways marked with a red X

They face a £100 fine and three penalty points.

Motorists who see a red X above a lane should move into another lane as soon as they can.
