Managers and owners of a popular pub have said farewell after deciding to move on.

Matt Bury and Paul Robinson took over the Spread Eagle Pub in Bromley Cross in October of last year.

The pair have thanked the community for their support, and they hope that the pub will continue to do well.

The duo decided to take over the pub as a new challenge but have decided that it was time for them to “move on”.

Matt said: “Thanks to everyone who supported us while we were there.

“We hope the pub continues to do well in the future.

“We have just decided to move on.”

The pub was temporarily closed on March 30 for a few days, and officially reopened on Thursday April 6 for drinks only.

There is currently a manager in place for the time being.

In a Facebook post a spokesperson for the pub said: “Thanks for your continued support, and please be assured that we see the Spread Eagle as a community pub with a bright future.”

Paul previously worked in pubs and took over a pub a couple of years ago, as well as being a chef for around 20 years.

Speaking to The Bolton News when they both ran the pub, Matt said: “I am a hairdresser by trade, and I have always worked in salons full time, so it was sort of like a different thing for me and this time we have both just decided to do it again and it was something we both found challenging but rewarding in the past, so we just thought we wanted to do something new together.”

They took over from George Campbell who was offered an opportunity at a new establishment in Kirkby Stephen last year.

George ran the pub for almost three years and during lockdown he provided a fruit and vegetable market, as well as being the base for the Bromley Cross Supper Group which co-ordinated Christmas and Easter gifts for the elderly residents and gifts during VE Day celebrations.

This historic pub has stood on the site on Hough Lane for over 100 years.
