An overladen scaffolding van was stopped on the motorway by police earlier today.

Officers came across the van on the M60 on Thursday afternoon which they suspected to have been overladen.

On further inspection they found that it was more than a tonne overladen.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “Another scaffolding vehicle was stopped travelling along the M60 as suspected to be overladen.

“Upon being weighed the vehicle was found to be 1.8 tonnes overladen.

“It was prohibited from further travel and Graduated Fixed Penalty Notices issued.”

This comes amid long running concerns about breaching regulations and in some cases anti-social driving on the motorways around Bolton and further afield across Greater Manchester in recent months.

As well as potentially dangerously overladen vans this has also included cases of car theft, dangerous driving, driving without licences and driving without insurance.

Police have also reported recent cases of drink driving and drug driving.

Officers have urged anyone with any concerns about crime or anti-social behaviour on the roads or otherwise in their communities to get in touch by calling 101 or 999 in the event of an emergency.

Alternatively, witnesses can also call independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
