A man in his 80s in a serious condition after a crash with a cyclist while he was walking this morning.

The collision happened in Horwich at 9.50am

Emergency services were called to Chorley New Road to reports a cyclist had collided with a pedestrian.

The road was closed until the afternoon near the Beehive Roundabout.

Officers and colleagues from NWAS attended and took the injured pedestrian, a man in his 80s, to hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.

Police are now appealing for people who may have witnessed the collison to come forward.

Detective Constable Shaun Whittaker, from GMP’s Bolton District, said: “We are asking for anyone who who may have seen the incident to please get in touch.

"We are particularly interested in anyone with any dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage, which will help us establish the full facts.”

Doctors and firefighters who were passing stopped to help as other emergency services arrived.

A police officer at the scene told The Bolton News a "pedestrian has been knocked over".

He said: "The pedestrian was hit by a cyclist. They've been taken to hospital.

Watch Manager Pilkington of Horwich Fire Station said: "Someone had been knocked over.

"We just assisted the police and NWAS with some medical care."

One resident at the scene said: "I didn't see or hear anything, I just heard a lot of sirens and the helicopter.

"There's always lots of accidents on here, especially at night time

"A cyclist and pedestrian seems strange, they usually involve a car."
