The Bolton GP practices rated the best and the worst by the residents who use them were revealed in a survey.

The results of this year's GP Patient Survey were released earlier this month after around 25,000 questionnaires were circulated in the area of which some 5,000 were completed.

The residents were asked a range of questions about their experiences of their practices including accessing appointments and accessing online services or out-of-hours services.

And one of the questions asked for them to assess their overall satisfaction with their practices.

Halliwell Surgery 1 (Dr Rizwan) topped the table after it achieved an overall satisfaction of 88 per cent. It beat both Crompton View Health Centre and Pike View Medical Centre by one percentage point.

In total 14 practices received an overall satisfaction of 80 per cent or more, the same as the number of practices to cross this threshold last year.

At the other end is Shanti Medical Centre after it achieved an overall satisfaction of 44 per cent.

In total four practices received an overall satisfaction of 50 per cent or less and more than 20 practices were below the national average and the regional average for the Greater Manchester Integrated Care Partnership.

Across Bolton, 70.6 per cent were overall satisfied, also below the national average and the regional average but by less than one percentage point.

Dr Jane Bradford, Associate Medical Director (Bolton) NHS Greater Manchester Integrated Care said: “Patient satisfaction is important and it requires the whole system to work together to ensure that patients across Bolton are receiving the best possible care and experiences with their local general practices.

“We welcome these results and will support GP practices, where needed, to make improvements.

“We recognise that being able to easily make an appointment with a GP practice is very important to patients. This has proved challenging in recent years due to the Covid pandemic and an ever increasing demand for services.

“Improving patients’ access to their GP surgery is a priority for us in Bolton which is why it is part the Bolton Quality Contract, a set of key standards which we expect our GP practices to meet.

“In Bolton, we are also currently working with practices and primary care networks (PCNs) to implement two national plans that will be rolled out in the area – ‘Local Capacity and Access Improvement Plan Actions,’ and ‘Delivery Plan for Recovering Access to Primary Care’.

“Across Greater Manchester as a whole there is a drive to give patients more control over their health and wellbeing through the ‘Get To Know Where To Go’ campaign, so that the people knows who to contact depending on their issue; making them aware of the different experts at their local GP practices; increasing patient digital access to services so they don’t have to wait for GP appointments; and providing extra support for urgent same day care.”
