A multi-million pound development to build a store and distribution hub has been given the green light.

The £3.9 million industrial development in Westhoughton will create new jobs.

Under the plans Panattoni UK Developments Ltd proceed with the development of an industrial unit with 36 onsite car parking spaces, on land at Great Bank Road within Wingates Industrial Estate in Westhoughton to the west of Bolton.

New landscaping and trees are also included together with EV (electrical vehicle) charge points, a concrete service yard to allow lorries to manoeuvre and waste storage facilities as part of a commercial development package, which will create 4,329 sq. m of modern storage and distribution facilities on a 1.04-ha brownfield site.

Work on the unit, which will be on the site of the former Bernstein’s Kitchen Factory and will benefit from access to good local transport links when completed in 2024, is expected to create a number of jobs during the initial build out phase.

There will also be further jobs in the local supply chain, logistics and warehouse sectors when the project is eventually finished, supporting economic growth and prosperity.

Steve Rowe, planner at the Manchester office of planning and development consultancy Lichfields, has secured approval for the project from Bolton Council.

He said: “Planning approval is another boost for the ongoing development of the Wingates Industrial Park.

“The area continues to be sought after by businesses looking to take advantage of high quality, flexible commercial accommodation in a great strategic location with excellent transport links and access to a skilled workforce.

“There continues to be strong demand for decent industrial space across the North West, so new units in locations like this, which benefit from investment in good planning, design and modern construction materials, will always be well sought after.”

The scheme has been designed by AEW Architects.
