Organisers welcomed more than 2,000 people through their doors to a second edition of a comic-based event in the centre of Bolton this year.

The Big Glasgow Comic Page Comic Con had only operated in Scotland for a number of years.

But it made its debut south of the border in the Market Place Shopping Centre earlier this year and returned to the same spot yesterday, Saturday.

It will be back today.

Visitors took the chance to purchase comic books, drawings from artists, toys and to play video games.

There was also an appearance from Spiderman, the Hulk Pikachu and Australian comic book character Bluey.

Organiser Ian Bonney said: “We’ve had our characters out, we’ve had Spiderman, Pikachu, Bluey, we’ve got the Hulk coming up, we’ve got arcade machines, we’ve got out props as well.

“The shopping centre is really good, they are obviously quite happy to have us along, they’d probably have us along every weekend if they could.

“This is our second time here, we will be back next year.

“It’s a free event at the shopping centre, aimed at families.

“There are lots of young kids getting to meet their favourite characters.”

He added: “Comics are the focus, there are a lot of people who are comic fans but don’t actually read comics, we still like to have comics but you have people who are fans of the characters.

"For Spiderman, for example, they will have Spiderman funkle pops, Spiderman action figures, Spiderman T-shirts but they don’t read the comics, which is fine.

"But we always have a strong presence of comic books in case anyone has seen a movie and they are maybe interested in getting into that.”

One person who was selling items was Sarah Dalton who works for Time Travel Toys.

The family run business makes toys including Star Wars and Toy Story figures from a factory.

She said: “We attend events every week.

“My son and his girlfriend are currently at Comic Con in Glasgow.

“People have been buying a bit of everything.

“It has been an excellent experience here in Bolton and we will be at Robin Park in Wigan next week.”

Marion Hammond was selling art created by her husband Stuart for their Atomic Age business.

She said: “He has been making these for years and years.

“He has started doing more modern culture.

“Star Wars is always popular but a lot of people like Anime as well.

“We are based in Glasgow, we have made it as far as London selling the work.”

Alan Todd, who sells comics, added: “You definitely liked your comics here in Bolton.

“Spiderman has been the most popular one.”

Photographer Henry Lisowski captured some great pictures from the event.
