A finance advisor is calling for measures to allow people to self-inject on-site at pharmacies after years of seeing bloody needles outside his business.

Kevin Titmus both works in and owns the buildings on Chorley New Road near Park Hill Street.

There is a car-park and alleyway in between the buildings.

It is in the alleyways and car park that Kevin says he picks up heaps of bloody needles and has even noticed human excrement.

The finance advisor says he is fed up of picking the needles up and asks that the pharmacy allow a space to self-inject so it does not happen outside, for fear a child will get hurt.

Kevin said: “Quite often I see disgusting bloody needles just left there.

“Recently, somebody relieved themselves in the car park as well.

“I just want someone to reach out to residents and businesses to open some sort of space for this because the last thing I want is kids to play outside and get hurt by a needle.”

Kevin says he has contacted the council numerous times and police, but the matter has still not been dealt with.

But Bolton Council say that while they understand, they cannot help as the land is private.

A spokesman for the council said: “In the past we have assisted in the clean up as a gesture of good will, but ultimately it is the responsibility of the landowner.

“On this occasion, the council has involved the neighbourhood service team to clear the site, the community safety team and made referrals to the police about the matter.” Kevin was given a sharps bin after he called the sharps team many times to pick up needles.

He said: “I do not want other people to be affected by this, so I pick it up.

“The sharps bin is almost full and yet every day I go out; I will see more rubbish and needles.

“I am sad there are people in this position, but I am frustrated that the authorities take zero notice.”

Kevin will continue to work for a safe space for injections to be both administered and discarded.
