Residents of Horwich gathered in the town centre last night to watch the Christmas light switch on, hosted by Mayor of Horwich, Councillor David Grant.

A carol service was held before the switching on which was led by Reverend Michael Behrend and the crowd came together to sing Hark the Herald Angels Sing, While Shepherds watched their flocks by Night and O come all ye Faithful.

Also in attendance was the Mayor of Bolton Cllr Mohammed Ayub, Mayor of Blackrod Cllr John Price and the mayoress Sandra Price and the town Mayor of Adlington Cllr Nina Buckley and her consort Graham Buckley.

Cllr David Grant said: “I’d like to thank you all for coming out tonight for our annual Christmas tree lighting and carol service.

“We’ve had some new lights put up around the town which have been provided by Horwich town council.

“We’re very grateful to the Reverend Michael Behrend for leading the service and accompanying us is the Rivington and Blackrod High School band and choir.”

He also gave his thanks to Horwich Rotary Club who unfortunately couldn’t be at the service due to their Santa Sleigh breaking down.

However, they will be going through the streets of Horwich for their fundraising in the coming weeks.

Earlier yesterday, it was announced by Cllr Grant that three light up reindeers had been stolen from the main Christmas tree, which were due to be lit up, however, spirits were still high.

If anyone has any details of who may have stolen them, please let the town council know.
