A hairdresser is hoping he is head and shoulders above the rest when he appears on the popular Channel 4 show.

Shane Mcloughlin will be serving up a feast on Come Dine with Me next month and says he pulled out all the stops to impress his guests.

In the dinner show competition, five people go to each other’s houses for a three-course meal which they then score out of five alongside their hosting skills.

The person with the highest score wins the show’s prize of £1000.

Viewers will have to wait till February 12 to see the week Shane is on, with his day being Tuesday.

Shane said: “I am not the best cook but I like trying new things and if I am cooking, I like to experiment.

I like to make traditional things like chilli, pies, and sushi.

“I use my mum’s recipes when I cook, and I watch cooking shows like the segment on This Morning for tips.”

Shane is not just into cooking but also grows his own fruit and vegetables at Morris Green, the area he lives in.

Potatoes, cucumber, tomatoes, and strawberries are some of the crops he grows.

Shane said: “I thought I would cook my favourite food that I like to order when I am out, but I cannot say what it is.

“I said I want to either win or come last, because nobody remembers who came in between.”

Shane was not the only Bolton person to be on the show as all the other contestants are also from Bolton.

He said: “It was a fun group of people that I filmed with.

“It was hard but also fun going to different people’s houses and trying the food.

“Everyone was really nice and friendly, and we all got on.

“When you watch the show sometimes people have arguments and don’t get on so I was worried, but I got on with everyone.”

The weeklong episodes were filmed last year in July, and contestants were contacted recently to say they could finally talk about it.

Shane said: “The days were quite long filming, but it was fun.

“It’s a bit awkward when there are cameras in the kitchen filming you cooking as you usually don’t have an audience but I just did what I would do when at home.

“Now, I have been cooking more and trying new things that I would normally not try, so it has made me a better cook.”

Shane is also the owner of Trend Hair and Aesthetics om Chorley New Road.
