Every week we love to shine the spotlight on some of the best local venues that the borough has to offer, in our Pub of the Week feature.

This week we spoke to the landlord at the The New Inn, to see how things are going since taking over the pub.

Name of the pub:

The New Inn

Address of the pub:

56 Church Street, Little Lever, BL3 1BE

The Bolton News:

Landlord name:

Kane Lee, 23

How long have you been the landlord/landlady for? And how are you finding it?

I have been at the pub for around three months, and it’s been really good.

Give us some history about the pub:

It used to be called the Ring O Bells pub and previously The Cherry Inn. People have said how much they love the new changes, and the entertainment we have added.

Is food served?

No food is currently served at the pub, and there are not any plans at the moment due to the size of the pub because it’s only small. There is however a wide selection of beers and spirits to choose from.

The Bolton News: What is the most popular drink served and why?

Carlsberg is probably the most popular because it’s the cheapest pint we do for £3.50.

What is the most memorable moment at the pub?

Christmas was memorable because it was a time where I could get to know punters and they could get to know me, and I met a lot of new people.

Do you have an entertainment line-up?

In February we are going to start having live singers on a Friday. I think a lot of people love entertainment and it brings something to the pub.

What are the biggest challenges within the industry and how can you overcome them?

The cost-of-living-crisis at the moment is really tough for people to manage. I am hoping that the cost of living will come down and people will be able to come out more. That’s why we want to put different things on to bring people in, because the pub is a social hub for people. That’s why we put the pub crawl on with other pubs in the area, and we will do some similar things in the future.

What is the best thing about running a pub and why?

The best thing really comes down to the people and being part of the community and helping the community. We want to keep people together and anyone isolated should talk about it.

The Bolton News:

What is the worst thing about running a pub and why?

The hours are very long, but I like being motivated, and it gives me that purpose.

What bonus things are offered at the pub?

We have a quiz night on a Wednesday, and we also have quite a lot of darts teams. We also have bottle and shot deals. For Valentine’s Day we are hosting an evening, where couples can enjoy a bottle of wine and a cheeseboard for £25 per couple. This will also include a quiz, with couple related questions. We are also doing a creepy crawly show for children on February 25, with lots of other fun activities, as well as a packed lunch.
