The description on the event’s now-deleted Eventbrite page said: “Come and dance the night away at the Bolton Aquarium's Silent Disco for LGBTQ Month, to celebrate and honour the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community to music and culture.

“This event is open to everyone who loves to move to the beat and have a great time. With wireless headphones, you'll enjoy a unique silent disco experience surrounded by exotic marine life such as Piranhas, Stingrays, and so much more!

“This is a safe and welcoming space where you can be yourself and let loose without fear of judgment or feeling out of place.

“Bring your friends or make new ones as you dance to your favourite tunes and let the music take you on a journey of unforgettable fun. Join us for an unforgettable night of celebration and dance!”

LGBT History Month was founded in 1994 by an American high school history teacher.

While celebrated in the US in October, in the UK LGBT+ History Month has been celebrated in the month of February since 2005, to commemorate the repeal of Section 28 of the Local Government Act, which prohibited the ‘promotion of homosexuality’ by local authorities.

Other event going ahead

Those looking to take part in some LGBT+ festivities can still look forward to an upcoming event at Bolton Central Library.

A drop-in event will take place on Monday, February 19 from 4.30pm to 6.30pm.

Staff will be showing eventgoers around the library and answering questions on LGBT+ books in the library’s collection.
