Police have warned of an increase in thefts in the centre of Bolton and a rise in burglaries in another part of the town.

People have been urged to be vigilant and to register devices with an online site to boost the chances of them being returned if they are stolen.

A police spokesperson for Bolton South GMP said: "There has been a recent increase in reports of theft from person offences in the town centre.

"Please remain vigilant when you are out and about, ensuring you keep valuables out of sight and area aware of your surroundings at all times."

People have been urged to register device with Immobilise to boost the chances of them being returned if they are stolen.

Police have worked to reduce shoplifting offences in the town centre.

Last month eight people were arrested leading to 26 charges.

Officers have also warned of a rise in burglaries in Little Lever and Darcy Lever and have given advice on how to keep properties safe.

A police spokesperson for GMP Bolton south said: "There has been a recent increase in burglaries in the Little Lever and Darcey Lever areas.

"Ensure your doors are securely locked overnight and when you leave your home, and avoid leaving any valuables on display."

People have been urged to install an alarm and check locks are working properly.

Police launched Operation Castle in 2021 as officers vowed to attend at the scene of every burglary.

In the first two years burglaries across the area fell by 21 per cent as 4,544 individuals were arrested.
