Last night, a police cordon was set up following the crash – with a Bolton councillor advising people to avoid the area.

Yesterday evening, Cllr Rabiya Jiva said: “I am aware of this incident and the police are aware as well.

“I would ask for anyone who may have witnessed this incident to please come forward and tell the police what you know.

“In the meantime, please stay safe, avoid the area and let the professionals get on with doing their jobs.”
