Firefighters from Farnworth helped tackle an industrial fire last night.

Two fire engines were still on the scene at 10am this morning (Tuesday, March 5) as crews helped to resolve the incident.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue said eight fire engines, as well as a technical response unit and turntable ladder, were sent to the scene last night.

Residents were advised to avoid the area and were told to keep their windows and doors closed as firefighters worked to tackle the fire.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “At just before 8pm yesterday evening (Monday March 4) eight fire engines from Farnworth, Agecroft, Eccles, Salford, Whitefield, and Atherton fire stations as well as the technical response unit from Ashton and turntable ladder from Farnworth fire station were called to reports of a fire involving a container and a single storey industrial unit at Wardley Industrial Estate, Worsley.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two jets to quickly extinguish the fire.

“Crews have worked through the night to damp down any remaining hot spots to ensure the safety of the surrounding area.”
