A man has been taken to hospital after a crash near Bury town centre.

The crash happened on Crostons Road just before 3pm yesterday (Tuesday, April 9).

Three teams from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) attended alongside Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service after a vehicle crashed in to steel fencing.

A GMFRS spokesperson said: “Just before 3pm two fire engines from Bury Central and Whitefield fire station, along with the technical response unit from Ashton, were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car crashing into some steel fencing on Crostons Road, Bury.

“Crews arrived quickly at the scene. Firefighters used a reciprocating saw, hearth kit, gas detector and other specialist equipment to rescue one man from the vehicle and to make the vehicle safe.

“The man was then taken to hospital by colleagues from North West Ambulance Service.

“Firefighters were in attendance for around one and a half hours.”

North West Ambulance Service and Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for comment.
