A BLACKBURN couple are celebrating their Golden Wedding anniversary.

Bernard and Rene Orrell, of Trinity Court, Birley Street, first met at 16, while they were both working at Daisyfield Cotton Mill.

It didn't take long for them to become a couple as they liked each other from their first meeting.

And after three happy years together they decided to become husband and wife and were married at St Alban's Church in Blackburn.

Despite Bernard's years in National Service and both being working parents, they have successfully raised three children, seen the births of six grandchildren and are soon to see their first great grandchild.

To celebrate the milestone, Bernard and Rene, who are both 69, and their family will be relaxing with a Mediterranean cruise next month.

When asked what she thought was most important to have a happy and successful marriage, Rene replied: "Every marriage has fights, but you have to have tolerance and understanding of each other to get through them."
