A MAN stopped driving home from a wedding was found to be over the specified limit for cannabis.

Blackburn magistrates heard Sanu Miah had his mother and his niece in the car with him.

Miah, 24, of Wynotham Street, Burnley, pleaded guilty to drug driving. He was fined £346 with £85 costs and a £138 victim surcharge.

He was banned from driving for 40 months after the court heard he had a previous conviction for drug driving in 2022.

Nasima Patel, prosecuting, said the police officer stopped Miah because of an issue with the car insurance.

“The officer could smell cannabis and the defendant appeared drowsy,” said Miss Patel “He was carrying passengers at the time and it will also concern you that he has a previous drug driving conviction.”

Irfan Akhtar, defending, said his client had smoked cannabis earlier in the evening.

“He didn’t realise it would affect his driving, which was a serious mistake on his part,” said Mr Akhtar.
