IF you think you could make a positive contribution to how health and social care services are delivered in the Leigh area you're invited to step forward.

Healthwatch Wigan is a new, independent not for profit organisation, scheduled for launch next April.

It aims to represent the views of local people including those who use health and care services so they can help shape how services in the borough are delivered.

Wigan Council’s Cabinet Member for Adults and Health and Chair of Wigan's Health and Wellbeing Board, Clr Keith Cunliffe said: “We’re looking for dedicated people who believe they have the skills and commitment to become members of the Healthwatch Wigan Board. We are looking to appoint a chairperson and nine trustees.

"They will play a significant role in developing the strategy, direction, business objectives and customer focus of Healthwatch Wigan, and they will maintain strong working relationships with Wigan Council, NHS and the local Health and Wellbeing Board.”

Healthwatch Wigan will be responsible for gathering views and understanding the experiences of people who use local services with powers to recommend investigations or special reviews of services via Healthwatch England or the Care Quality Commission.

Wigan Council is co-ordinating the recruitment campaign. Two information events will be held in Leigh on Monday, January 7, at 7pm and at Hindley on Tuesday, January 15 at 1pm, more details from p.haunch@wigan.gov.uk The closing date for applications is 5pm Friday, January 25.
