AN Atherton-based scaffolding firm is to be prosecuted following the death of an employee who fell through the roof of a Skelmersdale warehouse.
Anthony Causby, 42 from Leigh, was helping to dismantle scaffolding when he stepped onto a fragile skylight and fell 12 metres.
The Health and Safety Executive is taking legal action against S&S Scaffolding Ltd following an investigation into the incident at the Walker Snack Foods site on Pennine Way which happened on December 14, 2010.
The company has been charged with breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and Regulation 9(2) of the Work at Height Regulations 2005.
The charges relate to failing to ensure the safety of employees and failing to prevent workers being injured in a fall through a fragile surface.
S&S Scaffolding, of Arley Way, Atherton is due to appear at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on Thursday for the first hearing in the case.
