Proposed public transport group to hold first meeting

A COMMUNITY-led campaign is being set up to tackle issues surrounding public transport.

The first meeting of the proposed passenger group - Along The Right Lines, Northern Communities Together - will be held at Westhoughton’s Hope Community in Central Drive on Wednesday at 7.30pm.

Issues such as train overcrowding will be discussed as will the groups aims to develop a new station at Dobbs Brow, which would potentially serve Leigh & Tyldesley and a Wigan 'Hub'.

I don't understand the need for a station at Dobb Brow. It is too close to Westhoughton and Daisy Hill stations for it to be any use.

And why would anyone want to travel from Leigh or Tyldesley to Dobb Brow? Atherton is much closer, Daisy Hill a little further (as is Newton-le-Willows from Leigh).

The Atherton line is expected to be converted to Tram-Train operation within the next decade should trials in South Yorkshire prove successful, which could see more frequent services introduced.
