FUNDING from the Brighter Boroughs Fund is helping to improve the children’s play area at Lilford Park.
Pledges from Clrs Keith Cunliffe, Myra Whiteside, Lord Peter Smith and Susan Greensmith 'for the children of Leigh' will pay for a new gate for the play zone.
The Friends of Lilford Park requested the gate from WLCT to prevent the problem of dogs getting into the area.
Chairman David Sykes said: “Lilford is very popular with young families and dog walkers alike and sometimes this causes problems when dogs enter the play zone.
“The present gate to the area is too heavy and tends to be left open which gives stray dogs free access.
“At our suggestion, WLCT agreed to install a self closing disability compliant pedestrian access gate and pathway. The gate will help to keep stray dogs out and make the area cleaner as a result.”
