A COMMUNITY group is hoping to create a wildlife area in Mosley Common - but it needs your votes to do it.
Mosley Common in Bloom has been shortlisted for a £25,000 grant from Mutual Insurance's Better Together fund which it will use to turn a piece of wasteland into a haven for birds and bees.
The group's woodland regeneration project would see the copse, which is behind the playing fields on Bridgewater Road, cleared from waste and planted with wildflowers.
Louise Cook, vice chairman of the group, said: "At the moment it is really overgrown with lots of birches which aren't very good for biodiversity. There is a ditch that runs around it which is full of filthy water and people have just dumped their household waste there.
"We want to clear the whole thing off, plant wildflowers and fruit trees to provide food and bring wildlife back to it. We want to make it a welcoming place where people will want to go."
The land also divides two communities and the group hopes that by connecting them it can help make develop relationships within the neighbourhoods.
The group is up against eight other projects in the north west and needs as many votes as possible to turn its vision into a reality.
"We want to get schoolchildren and Scouts involved to install hog houses, a bug village and bird and bat boxes but we need as many votes as possible," said Louise.
- The same person can vote once a day by visiting together www.mutualinsurance.co.uk/better and voting for number seven, Making Nature Better Together.
