PLANS for a £9m development at Astley Point have been revealed at a public exhibition.

Moe than 250 people attended the presentation organised by developers Salcaul Limited showing plans for the six acre site in Higher Green Lane.

it will be a mixed-use development including homes, an entertainment destination and restaurant.

Salcaul Limited says the development will create more than 70 new permanent jobs.

Director Sean McCaul said: “We have the opportunity to create a very high quality development — a new focal point for Higher Green and Astley — at the site which is currently occupied by the Rendezvous Cabaret Club and other outbuildings.

“Our architects Cartwright and Gross have created exciting plans for the site which will set the new homes and leisure opportunities in stunning landscaped surroundings informed by the local heritage, history and countryside.”

There will be 30 exclusive two bedroom apartments in five new buildings including designer kitchens and bathrooms, with balconies or gardens and secure parking.

Surrounding the site there will also be landscaping including a water feature and extensive planting.

Salcaul Limited is a joint venture between Salboy and Redwaters and has been set up specifically to deliver Astley Point. Salboy, is a company owned by Fred Done and Simon Ismail who develop schemes throughout the UK.

Mr Ismail said: “This is the first project we have undertaken in Astley and we are really looking forward to producing a first class development that will provide much needed facilities for the local area.”

The public exhibition was held in advance of the submission of a formal planning application to Wigan Council. The planning application will be submitted by the end of the year and work is expected to begin on the 18 month construction programme in summer 2016.
