BONFIRE night is here and there is lots in store for families to enjoy in the area tonight.

At Leigh Cricket, Tennis and Bowling club, a firework extravaganza will be going off with a bang starting with a children's display at 6.45pm.

The main show will begin at 7.30pm. Food and drinks will be available from 5pm and a funfair will be open from 5.30pm.

Tickets are priced at £15 for a family of four, £6 for adults and £4 for children under 14. Children under two have free entry.

Atherton Collieries in Alder House, will be lighting their bonfire at 6.30pm and their firework display will begin at 7.30pm. Entry is £4 for adults and £2 for children. A fun fair and refreshments will be on site.

Leigh Rugby Union Football Club's firework and bonfire bonanza will be lit at 5.45pm an at 7.30pm more than £2,000 worth of fireworks will light up the skies. There will be fun fair rides, games, a magic show and children's character appearances.

The Spinners Arms in First Lane, Leigh will be holding a firework display tomorrow at 7pm followed by karaoke. Refreshments available. For tickets call: 07900404718

Greater Manchester Police have reminded residents and business owners that it is illegal to buy or sell fireworks to anyone under the age of 18 and people should ring 101 to report such instances.

The fire service have also warned residents to take in their bins to deter fires being started in them.

A warning for pet owners has also been released by RSPCA Wigan, Leigh and District Branch to make sure their pets have somewhere to hide for example under furniture, and to put on music to mask the sounds of the fireworks,
