A PUBLIC meeting will be held in Atherton this Thursday (April 28) to discuss the independent public inquiry that will decide the fate of Formby Hall.

The meeting is residents’ last chance to get information on how they can have their say after the secretary of state launched the public inquiry into the application for the popular civic venue to demolished, which was approved in January.

The future of the Hall now lies in the hands on the government and not the local authority who will decided whether developers will be given the go-ahead for their plans.

The meeting will be held at Atherton Community School, on Hamilton Street at 7.30pm and will be hosted by Bolton MP Chris Green and the Atherton Residents Association.

A spokesman for Atherton Residents Association, said: “This is the last chance to save this land and building for the purpose it was gifted, which was to Atherton Council ‘for the people of Atherton for leisure purposes.’”
