THE Rotary Club of Astley has built strong links with the Pelican Centre at Tyldesley swimming pool.

Immediate past president of the club, Derek Ratcliffe, volunteered time and money carrying out general building work and replacing windows at the Castle Street centre.

In recognition of his efforts, Pelican Centre trustees Trevor Barton, left, and Dr Alistair Thompson, right, presented Derek with a bottle of whisky at last week’s club meeting at the Greyhound Hotel, Leigh.
