A DEMENTIA support group took a trip back in time with an exhibition on the 1950s.

The Bolton Dementia Support Group captured the spirit of the decade with a collection of photographs, clothing, toys and historic items at the two-day event at St Gregory’s Social Club in Church Street, Farnworth.

The group, which holds weekly memory cafes across Bolton, built the exhibition around the Queen’s Coronation in 1953.

Barbara Clarke, chief officer of Bolton Dementia Support, said the collection provided comfort and stimulation for dementia sufferers.

Ms Clarke said: “A lot of our members struggle with their short-term memory, but have excellent long term memory. Our committee really enjoyed reminiscing about the 1950s and I think the exhibition was a celebration of some of the excellent work being done for dementia in Bolton.”

The project was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
