ROAD CYCLING: Kerry duo at the double to claim ‘team’ prize

5:31pm Friday 17th May 2013

LANCASHIRE Road Club’s Frank and Martin Kerry claimed an unusual “team” win at the Vets 25-mile Time Trial at Cockerham. When extreme wind reduced the number of finishers, officials decided to award the team prize to a two-man rather than the customary three-man team. Frank clocked 1hr 11mins 25secs and Martin 1:15:34. The previous Sunday Martin Kerry finished second in his age group and 24th overall out of 726 competitors at the Skipton Triathlon. Elsewhere, LRC riders faced the timekeeper in the Wigan Wheelers 10-mile TT at Garstang. Tony Workman was sixth with a time of 22:09 and Neil Pope was 55th in 26:53. Workman followed up by finishing eighth in the Wigan Wheelers 30-mile TT at Cockerham Sands, clocking a relatively slow time of 1:14:40 in an event plagued by gale force winds. Glen Bowyer abandoned after the first lap and Frank Kerry did not start.
