Investigation launched after man 'bleeds to death' in Royal Bolton Hospital

The Bolton News: The Royal Bolton Hospital The Royal Bolton Hospital

AN INVESTIGATION has been launched after a patient died suddenly at the Royal Bolton Hospital.

The Bolton News understands a man is thought to have bled to death in the hospital's high dependency unit in March.

Health chiefs have now set up a serious case review panel to look into the incident.

A director from the Bolton NHS Foundation Trust will lead the investigation and a report will be presented to the trust board and the NHS Bolton Clinical Commisioning Group (CCG).

The hospital's head of communications, Heather Edwards, said: “We can confirm that we have had an incident in which sadly a patient died unexpectedly.

“We have set up a serious case review panel to look into this to see what, if anything, could have been done differently.

“A final report will go to our board, the CCG, and the family once the review has been completed.”

The police are not involved in the investigation.

Findings of the investigation could be passed to the coroner once the trust has completed the review.

How dreadful! How could this happen? I thought one had a designated nurse on one to one.

Is it just me that thinks that having "A director from the Bolton NHS Foundation Trust" leading the panel is wrong?
When things like this happen it should automatically raise red flags to the upper levels of the NHS and an independent panel should be formed using people from as far away from the incident area as possible to avoid chances of "miscommunication" the likes of what have happened when self disciplined panels have been formed across the UK in recent years.

Iv been in Bolton Hospital 3 times in the last 18 months, the high dependancy unit played a massive part in saving my life, I found the commitment given by all the staff on the 5 different wards in difficult conditions, a man in the next bed spent 5 hours during the night fighting with the nurses refusing to take his medication. You all need to ask yourselves how would you deal with this, I couldnt without him needing further treatment, Everyone looks at the hospital through the Bolton News glasses, The hospital is strtched to the limits nto meet unreachable targets and they are not to blame, They are only the scapegoats for this terrible government, with massive cuts what do you expect. The Government are the problem, see the bigger picture.

The article does not name the individual, so consent is probably not needed.

Some departments at RBH provide a good service, but others are shockingly poor, indeed I've experienced nailed-on negligence at RBH: fortunately, it didn't have serious consequences.

If you read this article carefully, it does not actually report anything that might not be expected at a hospital. BN are trying to make a story from supposition.

To be fair, it may not be, you not in a position to know who passed away in the unit.

This is the press, it wouldn't work if they had to get permission to speak.
